Thousands of people in India and other countries across the world will celebrate the arrival of spring with the Hindu Holi Festival on March 6. Holi takes its name from the Hindu demoness Holika, who was burned to death by Vishnu. The festival of colors the following day celebrates Krishna and the god’s playful nature. The bright colors — derived from plants and natural elements like turmeric, palash, beetroot, neem, dhak and kumkum — will adorn revelers’ faces, clothes and even city streets.
