The government of Catalonia says it’s planning to open 50 delegation offices to represent the interests of the region across the world.

Catalonia’s Deputy Minister for External Affairs says each office would be in charge for several countries. According to Roger Albinyana, the offices will support Catalan companies working abroad, attract foreign investments into the region and promote its culture. Catalonia has already established delegation offices in the US and several European countries. Catalonia is an autonomous region of Spain which can pursue its own foreign policy. Spain’s most prosperous region has been demanding independence in recent years. An unofficial vote last year showed that an absolute majority of Catalans support its secession. The Spanish government and the EU oppose the idea.
